What is International Association of Private Career Colleges?

The IAPCC is an Australian educational non-profit association, that acts as a coordinating body for private career colleges. The IAPCC was founded in 2009 and is an acronym that stands for the International Association of Private Career Colleges. Associations are organizations that serve the interest of members, and this also includes associations that primarily accept institutions as members. There is a growing interest in private career colleges that provide programming for technical and career-oriented students. The benefits also include flexible classes, and completion times that can be accelerated depending on the interest and capabilities of the student. Students look to private colleges for building a specific set of skills or to get an educational experience that covers a broad spectrum of studies. 

The IAPCC functions as an international umbrella organization for private colleges that provide these educational programs to students. This is a member-only group that requires member institutions to be fully recognized by the regional accreditation authorities in their respective regions. In order to qualify as a member, the institution must also be in good standing. Member institutions that are unable to meet these basic requirements are subjected to having their membership credentials revoked without refunding dues. If the institution is already affiliated with regional or local associations, the membership dues might be reduced. 

In addition, there are four levels of membership:

• Individual

• Corporate 

• Educational agencies or authorities

• Educational institutions

Only educational institutions qualify for full membership. There is an observer-level membership available to agencies and educational authorities. Corporations and individuals can qualify for associate memberships. 

What the IAPCC Does

This association has a global base of members. The membership consists of institutions providing the kind of training and career education desired by students. It also serves as a promoter for the private colleges represented by its own members as well as unaffiliated private colleges within the same industry. International and local recognition programs are critical for establishing credibility with members, the general public and other interested parties. Cases involving complaints or disputes between members can be resolved within the association when it assumes the role of an arbitrator within the peer group. 

To facilitate a range of goals and services, the association adopts principles for determining a course of action based on each situation. For example, it puts forward an official code of ethics, which all institutional members are required to follow. The association can serve as a liaison between governmental organizations and member colleges when there are issues of local jurisdiction that must be sorted out in order for the member college to operate. There is a peer-review process for the acquisition of recognition and accreditation within the industry. 

Additional Functions 

Other services can include a variety of information-gathering activities, and this includes statistics that are relevant to the members of the career college industry. This information can be made available to members of the general public, guidance counsellors and other interested parties. Additional information-gathering and dissemination programs are made available to organizations that already have membership. This information might contain material of an educational, social or economic nature. It might be relevant to governance or include data that has value to the general public. 

Presentation of this material also plays a critical role in the function of the association’s general activities. For example, each member may have a particular view that needs to be represented in meetings with governmental authorities, regulators, legislators, public meetings and other organizations. The information about members’ views on specific policies can help the association represent these views during interactions with other organizations. There is also an awards program that provides incentives to colleges that are able to maintain a student services program that meets exceptional standards.
